Here are some of the highlights and achievements we have all contributed to this year:
- 39 of you joined us on our Trek to Remember this September in the Yorkshire Three Peaks. It was one of our most gruelling treks, taking between 10-13 hours to complete, covering a total of 24 miles and ascending up the three biggest peaks in Yorkshire! Not only did everyone complete it, but a lot of fun was had by all. Everyone supported each other, and really became one team. And to top it all off, over £28,000 was raised! A big thank you to everyone who joined in or donated towards this years Trek to Remember
- We got lippy and loud about gynaecological cancers in May, because our survey found that a quarter of women and people with gynae organs had felt not listened to during their gynae health appointments. This needs to change! We created some tips to help doctors help their patients with the biggest barriers feel comfortable during gynae health appointments. And we also created tips for you, to help you get the most out of your appointments, which you can find here
- Over 600 of you joined us for one of the virtual challenges that took place through the year! The Lockdown Challenge, Make Change Happen, the Get Lippy Run, and the September Steps challenge. Between you all £85,000 was raised to help fund research and raise awareness for the prevention of gynaecological cancers, thank you to everyone who joined us, and if you would like to get involved in 2022 we have a 30 Day Challenge running right now, sign up here to take part
- In September for Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month we released our guide to HPV– the common virus which 30% of us still haven’t heard of. Our guide covers everything from what HPV is, how it is transmitted, what diseases it can cause and how you can try and prevent it. You can download the guide at eveappeal.org.uk/hpv
- 20 of you took part in one of the national events! The Royal Parks Half Marathon, London Marathon, London 10,000, Great North Run, Scottish Marathon and the Edinburgh Marathon Festival. Lots of places are now open for 2022, so if you fancy a challenge next year, get in touch with fundraising@eveappeal.org.uk
- With our friends at P&G and Tesco we raised awareness of abnormal vaginal bleeding, a red flag symptom of three of the five gynaecological cancers, in our campaign Know Your Normal. The campaign was seen by 0.3 billion people! That is a lot of awareness raised about abnormal bleeding, and not only that, over £30,000 was raised to help fund research into the prevention and earlier diagnosis of the five gynaecological cancers
- At the very beginning of the year we launched our guide to genetic testing for women and people diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The guide was adapted from the British Gynaecological Cancer Society (BGCS) guidelines for medical professionals to help you understand what genetic testing is, what you might be offered and how it all works. You can find the guide here.
As we head into another year starting with uncertainty, there is one thing we know. We will still be here, working to help save lives from gynaecological cancers and support the people they affect. Another very busy year is on the cards and we are looking forward to you all seeing what we have in store for 2022.
