Della was a Get Lippy ambassador and worked with us to smash down some of the taboos around ovarian cancer on many occasions, including speaking at our Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month event and at the House of Commons.
Della was first diagnosed and treated for breast cancer, before later being diagnosed with ovarian cancer and then finding out she had a BRCA gene alteration.
For years Della has been a trailblazer, working with many charities and organisations, in the UK and Nigeria, to make sure Black people’s voices are heard when it comes to cancer research and awareness, and her legacy will live on. Della never shied away from any conversation and spoke up loud and proud about her experience and any stigma and taboos she faced after being diagnosed.
But most of all, Della lit up every room she went in, she was the life and soul! She brought joy and laughter into everything she did, and we had so many laughs. It was the biggest pleasure to know her and work with her. We will miss her sorely.
We are sending our thoughts to her family, friends and all of the many people who loved her.
