When I found out about The Eve Appeal’s 25km Go Red Trek in the Peak District last September I knew straightaway that this was something I must do. This would mark the achievement of a personal milestone for me, being alive and well one year on from surgery for womb cancer, whilst at the same time raising money to help other women survive gynaecological cancer.
Being joined by some of those who had supported me most, my husband, my two sons and one of their girlfriends, made it even more special for me.
The day of the trek surpassed expectations. The sun shone, the scenery was stunning and I met some truly inspirational people along the way. Among them, people whose lives had also been touched by gynaecological cancer, researchers whose vitally important work was being funded by The Eve Appeal, as well as several members of the Eve team.
What a great opportunity to be able to talk to Athena, the CEO, who gave me confidence that The Eve Appeal has a robust process for allocating funding to areas of research that will be most benefit women. And it was so helpful to share my experience of being told I had cancer with Tracie, who runs the Ask Eve service. If only I’d known about Ask Eve when I was diagnosed!
I loved taking part in the Go Red Trek so much last year that I’ve signed up again this year and cannot wait to join Eve again, walking in the beautiful Cotswolds.
