We’re thrilled to announce a new partnership with podcast sensation My Dad Wrote a Porno as they seek to help us bust the taboos around gynaecological cancers through donating a percentage of the sales of their recent spine-tingling Christmas special to the charity.
At The Eve Appeal we are committed to working in partnership to raise awareness and reach new audiences in innovative and engaging ways – and as such we’re always shouting at the top of our voices to reduce the embarrassment around gynae cancer signs and symptoms.
CEO of The Eve Appeal, Athena Lamnisos said: “Fans of the podcast will know all too well that Rocky isn’t at all sure where a cervix is or what it’s for. Unfortunately, neither are many women. Gynaecological cancers are far too little known or talked about. We’re working hard to remove the embarrassment that stops women going to the GP or attending her cervical smear test.”
Alongside raising awareness, My Dad Wrote a Christmas Porno, has been raising funds towards the pioneering medical research of The Eve Appeal into early detection, prediction and prevention of gynaecological cancers with a donation from each download.
Jamie Morton, Host of My Dad Wrote a Porno, said: “Lots of people have downloaded this episode, already getting it Top 2 in the chart, and we’re hoping lots more will do so over the next few weeks. The Eve Appeal are doing such amazing work challenging the lack of knowledge that surrounds gynae symptoms and parts of women’s bodies that we really wanted to team up with them. The cervix and the vagina come up a lot on the podcast (with some pretty daft labels!) – so we thought, let’s have a laugh and at the same time help women look after their health.”
There are five gynaecological cancers, ovarian, womb, cervical, vulval and vaginal. Together, these diseases are the UK’s third most common cause of cancer deaths among women. Every day, 57 women in the UK are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer and 21 will die, yet 30% of women are unable to name more than one gynaecological cancer and 1 in 5 young women cannot correctly identify a single symptom of any of the gynaecological cancers.
Dr Tracie Miles, The Eve Appeal’s specialist nurse, said: “It is this lack of awareness about gynae cancers, coupled with the embarrassment, stigma and taboos surrounding them, that means that for many women, the first time they hear about one of these diseases is when they are sitting in a small white room with a clinician telling them they’ve got one. That’s something that needs to change. We’re delighted to work with Team Porno on raising awareness. If they can’t call a cervix a cervix, and know what it is, where it is and what it’s for, who can!”
