General Questions
Who organises the challenge?
The Eve Appeal have partnered with Global Adventure Challenges (GAC) to provide this trek. We have worked with them for a number of years, and they have over 20-years of experiencing delivering challenges around the world.
Registration
Is there a registration fee?
Yes, it costs £35 to enter per person and the registration fee is non-refundable.
Can I register on the day?
Unfortunately, we are unable to take registration on the day due to health & safety reasons. Registration closes on Friday 30th August 2024 – we encourage that you register as early as possible, so you have plenty of time to train and fundraise.
Groups
Can I take part as a group?
Yes, we would love for you to take part with your friends, family, or colleagues! Each person will need to register separately though, then just let us know you are taking part as a team. You are also more than welcome to come by yourself, you’ll get to meet some truly lovely people.
How do we fundraise as a group?
We’d recommend having one JustGiving page which you all use to send round to friends and family – this means if you have a similar circle of friends you are only asking them once rather than asking them to sponsor four individual pages.
Do groups have the same minimum sponsorship?
Yes! We ask everyone taking part to aim to raise a minimum of £325 however you are more than welcome to do this together, for example a team of 4 can set up a team fundraising page to raise £1,300.
Fundraising
What is the sponsorship target?
Yes, you will have a fundraising target of £380 which can help to fund life-saving research that could make gynaecological cancers diseases of the past. You can also choose the self-funded option, which is £35 to register, £180 self-funded fee and £180 sponsorship target.
Do I have to raise the money by a specific date?
Yes, if you’re on the minimum sponsorship option then 50% of the minimum sponsorship (£190) must be received by The Eve Appeal by 16th August 2024. Failure to do so may mean non-participation in the challenge. The balance of the challenge costs will be paid for you by the charity out of the sponsorship raised. All outstanding sponsorship must be sent to The Eve Appeal no later than 4 weeks following the challenge.
Should I set up a fundraising page?
We’d recommend setting up a JustGiving page as it is a great way to let everyone know you are taking on this incredible challenge whilst encouraging them to sponsor you. A step-by-step guide on how to set up your page will be included in your email fundraising pack along with our sponsorship form template, which is perfect for anyone who doesn’t want to donate online.
How will The Eve Appeal use the funds I have raised?
Your support can help make gynaecological cancers diseases of the past. You can help fund life-saving research, raise awareness of these cancers, and their signs and symptoms, as well as support our Ask Eve service.
£25 could help to fund an hour’s call with our gynae nurse specialist. £380 could help to fund 15 hours, helping to ensure that those who need the service get the information and support they need.
Should I set up a fundraising page?
Please set up a JustGiving page to fundraise. We have the event ‘A Trek to Remember’ listed on JustGiving.
You’ll also receive a sponsorship form in your fundraising pack should you like to collect cash or cheque donations. These can be banked either by:
- Giving us a call on 020 7605 0100.
- Requesting a paying in slip to use at your local HSBC bank.
- Sending a cheque to The Eve Appeal, 10 – 18 Union Street, London, SE1 1SZ.
- Visiting www.eveappeal.org.uk/donate to pay in online.
I’m finding it difficult to fundraise in the current climate what can I do?
If you are really struggling to raise the amount please do get in touch, we are always more than happy to offer advice as well as fundraising ideas and tips. You can contact us either by emailing lauren.siddy@eveappeal.org.uk or calling 020 7605 0153.
Travel and accomodation
Is accommodation provided for this challenge?
Unfortunately, we do not provide accommodation for the challenge. The trek takes place overnight and will take around 10 hours to complete. If you want to say the night after the trek, to rest up before heading home, there is plenty of accommodation near by.
How do I get there?
The closest train station to Llanberis is Bangor Station. You can get a train from many mainline stations including London Euston, Manchester Airport, Edinburgh, Birmingham New Street, Liverpool Lime Street and Glasgow Central, but it’s likely you will have to change trains en-route.
You can then get public transport to Llanberis, or a taxi from the station. The bus services are S2/ 85 / 86 which depart from Bangor station.
What time will the walk begin?
You will need to arrive in Llanberis by late evening on Friday 27th September. Registration will begin at 1am on Saturday 28th September, alongside a hot buffet meal and event briefing. The walk will then begin around 2am on Saturday 28th September. This schedule is subject to change.
Where will we meet and finish?
The start and finish point will be a hotel in the middle of Llanberis, postcode LL55 4SU. Full details will be included participant information packs upon registration.
On the day
Will any refreshments be provided on the day?
Yes! You will receive dinner before beginning the trek, snacks on route, and a breakfast with hot drinks at the finish! We do recommend packing some of your favourite snacks though.
Can my friends and family come and support me?
Friends and family are welcome to support, however the nature of the walk means it will be difficult for them to see you along the route. They will be able to see you off from the start line and cheer you across the finish line. Keep in mind they won’t be able to walk the route unless they register for the event.
Can I bring my dog?
Unfortunately not – we love dogs, but they aren’t permitted to take part with you.
Are their toilet facilities on route?
No, we will be embracing the great outdoors on this challenge!
Will there be medical support during the walk?
Absolutely! Medical support will be available throughout the event and you will be given a contact number when registering on the day should you need medical assistance. Please note when registering you are required to fill in a medical questionnaire, which at the discretion of Global Adventure Challenges may require a doctor’s signature.
What happens if I have to pull out during the trek?
If you feel unwell during the trek or for any other reasons are unable to continue, please let a member of the Global Adventures Challenges / Eve team know straight away.
Training & Kit
How do I train for the event?
When you sign up you’ll receive a training guide to help you prepare for the day. This guide covers 4-weeks of training which is deemed suitable for this event. However, the fitter and more prepared you are, the more you will enjoy the challenge.
What kit will I need?
When you sign up you will receive a kit list from Global Adventure Challenges. This will cover everything you need to safely complete the challenge. You will need your own kit, this will not be provided by Global Adventure Challenges or The Eve Appeal. As this is at night, you will need your own high quality head torch!
Cancellation
Can I swap my place with someone else?
Yes, you have up to 7 days before the challenge to swap your place, however this could incur additional costs.
What happens to my place if I cancel?
If you can no longer take part and have to cancel then you must contact either Global Adventure Challenges or The Eve Appeal as soon as possible. You have to tell anyone who has supported your fundraising that you are no longer taking part and see if they would like a refund on their donation.
If you cancel in the 42 days before the trek (after Friday 12th August) we will still incur a cost for your place as arrangements will have already been made. If you cancel before 12th August we will not face any costs for your place.
